Finally, a lab coat for pregnant and nursing mothers in research. Every aspect of this lab coat is thoughtfully engineered to let you keep up your amazing research without missing a beat.
Alma Levant Hayden was an American Chemist, mother of two, and by all accounts the first African-American woman to work in a science position at an agency in Washington, D.C. (per ACS).
She worked at both the NIH and FDA, and her work was critical in exposing a highly touted anti-cancer serum as being nothing more than a creatine supplement.
“The Alma” maternity lab coat is named in honor of her important contributions and trailblazing while also balancing motherhood and family life.

Use the stitched-in soft cotton belt to pull the waist in up to 8 inches early in your pregnancy. The extra fabric folds neatly at your sides so you can look professional and feel confident in your work.

Our testers told us pokey tools in chest pockets were a no-go, so we made sure there was shoulder storage and an extra stitch on the lower pocket to stay organized.

Those knobs can't touch you now! We added zippers to the side access vents so you can get to your inner pockets in a pinch without getting snagged by knobs and equipment when you walk.

This hidden back pleat opens up to two inches when you reach for those precursors in the back of the cabinet so your wrists stay protected and you stay comfy.

A proprietary weave of medium-weight American-grown cotton twill for natural-fiber protection that prevents overheating. Finished with softening and stain-release non-chemical processes.

Soft rib-knit cotton cuffs gently hug your wrists to keep your skin protected as you reach for those chemicals in the back. Tapered forearm sleeves also help keep your lab coat out of your science.

All-metal stainless steel snaps that won't melt shut when you've got to get out quickly. Whether it's a fire, chemical explosion, or you just have to pee - no more messing around with unthreading buttons in a hurry.

Lay it flat for casual comfort and pop that collar when you need it most. Protect your vulnerable neck and chest from unexpected splashes and explosions.
The Alma sizes correspond to our regular women's lab coat, The Curie. A medium Alma has a few extra inches in the shoulders and chest to give you room to grow in your upper body. The waist and hips flare significantly, but the pleats and hidden belt keep it under control early in your pregnancy. Most women's sizes will be determined by the chest measurement. The size chart is intended for measuring when you're just starting to show. If you're later on, just make sure your body measurements are all less than the size chart numbers for your size!
We publish detailed size charts to make sure you find the right fit the first time. You just need to check it against your own measurements. However, the lab coats can be returned or exchanged within 30 days if you cover the shipping and restocking cost (usually around $12 total in the USA).
Check with your lab safety officer about hazards, laundering details, and any compliance markings you may need (FR, CE, etc.) For more details, visit our Lab Coat Safety & Care FAQ Page.
Yes! We've already had customers send in photos dyeing them black and green. The one catch is that the stitching is synthetic (for strength), so it will be always stay white.
We can take group orders to save on shipping costs and we can accept Purchase Orders for a minimum of 8 lab coats. We will also offer embroidery options before shipping. See our group orders page for more details.
