*The 144-tile Starter Set ($3) is required to form sentences. It includes science basics like "experiment", basic pronouns, linking words like "and", "the", and endings like "ed" and "y". Embrace creative constraints:
There are 171,476 words in the English language. These science word magnet sets have 144 tiles each. You could just write anything on a dry erase board. Why is this more fun? The power of creative constraints.
When you can write anything, the paralysis of choice often leaves you writing nothing.
So we've done the hard work for you and chosen words for specific fields in science and academia. All you have to do is arrange them!
- Express your feelings for the day
- Leave a funny message for your lab mates or office buddies
- Take a break and engage your creativity just for fun!

These magnets are awesome! They are just like your standard "word poetry" magnets, but they are all themed for research and PhD Balance. I especially like that they give you a dry-erase write-in magnet for when you just need a specific word.
I look forward to piecing together a new phrase each night after dinner - I speed through washing the dishes just so I can find the right magnets to express the way I'm feeling in the current moment. Using these PhD Balance-inspired magnets to express my frustrations about Reviewer #2, fears about not meeting my boss' expectations, or my love for therapy and chocolate allows me to explore my feelings in a safe, creative way.
These magnets are fun to play with, and it seems I'm really adept at making completely nonsensical sentences. But, more than this, something about creating little "poems" using words related to mental health and grad school gives me space to step back and think about some of the challenges we face without judgement of myself.
