SAFETY INFO

This lab coat is made from 100% cotton and all-metal snaps, which is accepted in most standard laboratory environments including introductory chemistry and biology lab classes. Please check with your lab safety officer for compatibility.

Fire:

100% Cotton provides better protection against flames than polyester or poly-cotton mixtures because polyester will melt to your skin and prevent emergency lab coat removal. 100% cotton is not “FR”, “flame-retardant” or “fire-proof”, and will burn slowly if exposed to intense flames. If your lab requires “FR” lab coats, get on our email list for our future release with flame retardant materials.

Acids:

Most lab coat materials, including 100% cotton, absorb strong acids and may develop holes from exposure. Always wear a neoprene, rubber, or PVC apron and long acid-resistant gloves on top of your lab coat when handling strong acids.

Customers praised this 100% cotton lab coat for its "luxe-weight fabric," exceptional fit, and thoughtful design features including cuffed sleeves, multiple pockets, and snap buttons. Many noted it's "comfortable yet still crisp" and provides excellent protection. Some concerns about sizing running small and fabric wrinkling, with a few customers suggesting thicker material.

We bought 30 (!) for our phage lab students

We bought 30 (!) for our phage lab students. The students, all freshmen, love them, and will use them in their other labs and during future research experiences. Other student researchers (and especially grad students) are so jealous – we might have to buy more...

WORTH THE PRICE!

As someone with a bigger chest, I've always had a hard time finding something that fits all the proportions on my body well and this fit perfectly! I am also autistic and did not find myself having any issues with it sensory wise, I actually kept it on after trying it on because I didn't feel the need to take it off for feeling scratchy, or tight. Super comfy, flattering, and loved discovering all the different components of this lab coat in person!

Worth twice as much: QUALITY design and materials

Beside myself over how great this coat is! It's a luxe-weight fabric, sewn beautifully with the best details ever. Love all the pockets, the side zip opening at the hip, and the cuffed sleeves. Even the embroidery was done to perfection. I'm a US size 4 with a small waist and the S fits like it was custom made for me--not tight, not too loose. I could get a sweater but probably not a sweatshirt under it. (I could take in the waist a button or two but not more than that and anyway it's perfect for me as is. Plenty of extra room through the hips even for my pear shape.)

Love my lab coats! I purchased two and use them for all my lab work. They fit great. I love all the pockets and the thickness of the fabric. I recommend this coat!

Best lab coat I’ve had

Quality is amazing. Definitely worth the money. I’m going to suggest this lab coat to all my friends and colleagues! Only thing is it ran a bit small, even tho I triple checked my measurements and gave myself extra room, the XS is just a bit more snug than I would have thought (but not too snug that it’s unusable). My next coat from here I will definitely size slightly up (I was between sizes anyways). Also, the pockets!!! No more pens falling out of my pockets when I bend over!!! I’m so in love! I also dyed it dark green and put lemon-patterned fabric on the pockets (doing this did not change the fit of the coat and it did not shrink)

Great company

This is my go to for lab gear for the rest of college and my career. I’m 44 and a junior at a research/major university. My goal is neuropsychopharmacology. It was neuropsychology but I really want to work in developing and fixing current drug therapy for schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s. I want to be in a lab. In order for me to start my career I will have to get my PhD. I hope Genius Lab Gear will be around for those years and my career. I hope they expand into other gear for labs.

good quality and nice fit

It fits me nicely (5ft2'', 126lb). I like the pockets, especially, the left upper pocket which has five pen holders. Love it so much. This lab coat is made of 100% cotton so it can be hot if I wear it for more than 20 min. So the ventilation is a bit of an issue.

Fits like a glove

I recently bought the Curie lab coat and it fits very well, it runs a bit small but personally I found it really comfortable. The pockets are very useful and what I liked the most is the fabric, is super soft.

Hi Mariana! We've updated the size charts and dimensions as of November 2024 so they should no longer run small. Thank you for your feedback earlier!

Best Lab Coat Ever!

Comparing this lab coat to other lab coats is like comparing wine to grape juice—the Curie lab coat exists on a totally different, much higher plane than other lab coats. This coat embodies the ideal toward which all other lab coats strive. I feel confident and ready to try new things in this coat, while in my old lab coat I felt just…standard.

The Curie provides actual protective coverage to my chest, neck and wrists. I can move freely in this coat. Frankly, I could take a Zumba class in this coat and be just fine! The pockets and sub-pockets let me organize my stuff so that everything is accessible, rather than rattling around in big pockets designed for a linebacker’s hands. As a petite woman, I appreciate that the coat fits both my bust and hips, and that I don’t have to hitch the coat up every time I bend over to make room for my hips. However, when the collar is popped, I look like I work for the Empire in Star Wars. Personally, I love the ability to pop the collar and button all the way up to my clavicle. It’s great for working with corrosives. But it’s nice that it’s an option and not an all-the-time kind of look.

One thing that surprised me about this coat is the extremely high quality of construction! The material feels strong and sturdy. It is about the same stiffness as a pair of broken-in blue jeans, while somehow also being softer than a poly-cotton blended coat. (Polyester fibers are stiff and almost sharp, while this fabric doesn’t have the same abrasiveness as other coats. Even though it’s stiff, it’s soft.) All the pieces of fabric have finished edges, so they won’t unravel. (Nothing worse than sticking your hand into a pile of spaghetti strings as the inside of your standard lab coat pocket disintegrates. I can tell that won’t happen with the Curie.) I do find myself feeling warmer than I do in a poly-cotton blended coat, but that may be due to the denser weave.

The biggest difference between this coat and my old lab coat is how much safer I feel in it! It covers the skin at my wrists and chest far better than any other coat I’ve ever used. The fabric feels like it will actually stop liquids from reaching me/my skin, and the fitted shape with box pleats means I can move freely without getting caught on doorknobs or hitching the coat around as I reach for items on very low/high shelves. I didn’t even realize I was flinching in my old coat until I put on the Curie and…was able to grab bottles off the shelf without mentally preparing myself for the coat to shift. I feel like I have a properly fitted suit of armor now, as opposed to swimming around in something designed for a person far larger than me.

The knitted cuffs are my favorite feature. It’s so nice to be able to reach for items and not expose my wrists and forearms to whatever’s going on around me. The smaller profile of the knit cuffs means that I’m less likely to knock glassware over as I work, whereas with a standard lab coat I’m constantly expending (mental) energy making sure I don’t knock over my work or lose a sample inside the rolled-up open cuff.

This coat works amazingly in a synthetic chemistry lab as well as an analytical chemistry lab. (I teach in both environments.) The fabric choice is excellent for situations where you might handle medium quantities of flammable materials, as is common in an undergrad organic chem lab. It’s probably not the best choice for highly acidic environments, since it’s 100% cotton. (From personal experience, I have learned to wear nylon when spending lots of time in acidic atmospheres, such as in a lab with an ICP-MS, or when doing acid digests. 100% cotton gets holes in those environments.) But if you’re only handling moderate amounts of acids, or only using them occasionally, this coat material seems like it will hold up just fine.

I was disappointed with this lab coat

I was disappointed with this lab coat. The fabric wrinkles very easily, and the fit was not what I expected. I wouldn’t purchase this one again.

So cute and fits well

Got this for my chem labs in XS size. Fits me quite well, maybe a tad bit big but I didn't want to risk it too small so I ordered a size up. Love the cuffs in particular as they allow me to pick up objects and pour without fear of cuff interaction. The many spaces for my jewellery, phone etc are also really good. The length is also appropriate and I adore the snap buttons and 100% cotton composition. Was exactly what i was looking for. I also appreciate the price as many other brands without these features can go for well over what i paid here

Exactly what I was hoping for

The cotton fabric is comfortable yet still crisp, so it holds its shape but isn’t scratchy and annoying like those typical loaner coats in the lab that are polyester. I’m really enjoying the higher quality of the snap fasteners too, the larger metal pieces feel more substantial and durable so getting in and out of the coat is easier and never feels like the closures are going to come away with the fabric. Also the pockets are generous and functional.

The design of this coat is tapered and more fitted, so aside from being functional and comfortable it also just LOOKS better. I would say the fit is on the leaner side, so consider sizing up if you want some extra room or will wear this over bulkier base clothes like a hoodie.

Overall I’m really happy this lab coat! I chose to get it embroidered too - the stitching quality is nice and elevates the coat even more.

Satisfied with my investment

I was specifically looking for a 100% cotton lab coat because I am very sensitive to synthetic materials. They feel awful on my skin, trap odours, and are bad for the environment. I knew I wanted something breathable and gentle on my sensitive skin. Additionally, I knew that I did not want to exhaust myself jumping from store to store looking for lab coats, nor did I want to buy something online from Amazon. I went with Genius Lab because of the material, the care that seemed to go into helping the customer select the right fit, and the fact that their selection was small. I am very happy with my choice. The lab coat feels great, looks great and several of my classmates have asked me for the name of the company that made it. I bought a second cheaper lab coat from my university and this further validity my choice to pay the premium for Genius Lab. If you are someone who also has skin sensitivities that might include sensory processing issues, just prefer the feel of cotton, want something that is good for the environment, breathable, easy to clean and well-made then I highly recommend The Curie from Genius Lab.

A true high quality modern lab coat

You know those synthetic paper thin lab coats made for 35 cents and look it? This isn't one of them. High quality, thick material, COTTON not polyester. Solid weight and the silhouette displays nicely even when the pockets are full. Two things I wish the company would iterate: (1) make an organic cotton version and (2) add good sized (not micro) pockets on the interior of the coat. Even without #1 and #2, this coat is spectacular. Truly a science-based work of art-- someone from the science/clinical sphere was definitely involved in its creation, which is why it checks all the right boxes. Shipping was lightening fast. I got the white female lab coat fyi.

Best lab coat ever

I am always cold. Holding this coat you can tell that it is well made by the weight. As a woman, I am accustomed to a lack of pockets. Not only does the Curie have pockets, there are pockets inside of pockets! Little touches like a pen loop on the arm or inside the chest pocket make this my favorite lab coat of all time. It is also less expensive than other coats I have purchased that were not half as nice. Love the coat. 10/10, have recommended to others.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Cotton naturally wrinkles much more easily than synthetic fibers, so yes. Synthetic fibers like polyester are often used to make "wrinkle resistant" fabrics, but many labs required 100% cotton so this isn't possible.

We publish detailed size charts to make sure you find the right fit the first time. You just need to check it against your own measurements. However, the lab coats can be returned or exchanged if you cover the shipping and restocking cost (usually around $12 total in the USA).

Check with your lab safety officer about hazards, laundering details, and any compliance markings you may need (FR, CE, etc.) For more details, visit our Lab Coat Safety & Care FAQ Page.

Yes! We've already had customers send in photo of these dyed black and green. The only catch is that the stitching is synthetic (for strength) so it will always be white. Tye-dyed lab coat here we come!

We can take group orders to save on shipping costs and we can accept Purchase Orders for a minimum of 8 lab coats. We will also offer embroidery options before shipping. See our group orders page for more details.
