December Resource: Standing Up for Science…in between rallies
The energy at the spring Stand Up for Science rallies was amazing, and I was lucky to meet the main organizer Colette after driving 7 hours to the DC rally at the Lincoln Memorial (and see Bill Nye)!
But, what do we do now?
Funding cuts are increasing, Congress is actually voting them in, and media attention has been spread so thin in all the world’s chaos that it seems to be sticking.
Here’s what I’m doing:
- Reading values-based talking points about science funding that will resonate across the political spectrum
- Connected with the Ohio local chapter and offered to help wherever I can be useful. Join your local SUFS chapter.
- Committed to a small monthly donation to help them cover ongoing operations. Join me in the Science Fight Club Discord server to connect more directly with the team and initiatives.
- Putting up ready-made small flyers around town showing support of basic research funding.

Maternity lab coat also featured in Ceramic Tech Today
Our new Maternity Lab Coat has gotten a lot of attention in the news! On top of earlier articles in C&EN and ChemistryWorld, it was featured in Ceramic Tech Today. I’m a materials scientist and used to be very involved in the ceramics society, so this was a fun one!
Reminder: It’s very difficult to get this in front of the right scientists at the right time, and this will be the first and only batch we ever make without some more sales. Please help share to your colleagues!
Lab coats restocked! Finally.
It seems that the physics changes every time we book an ocean freight shipment. Our new lab coat batch was originally scheduled to land in NYC on October 30th. For a variety of reasons, it didn’t arrive until December 3rd. Thank you all for your patience!
